We've got ourselves settled in to the car, ready for our first adventure in public.
"Uh...Lady Mum?"
Turning to look at Dexter sitting straight and rigid in the back seat. "Yes, Dex?"
Wide-eyed and unblinking, "What's an adventure?"
"We are going to Tractor Supply to look at toys for you."
"I'm not sure about this Lady Mum."
Mum turns her head to look at Dexter and says in a soft voice,"Oh Dexter. I want you to know that if you go somewhere with me, you will always come home with me."
Shifting his eyes to look at Mum,"You're sure?"
"Yes. You will always come home with me. We're a team remember?"
Relaxing just a little, Dexter leans against the door to look out the window as they travel down the road and whispers, "Adventure. Home."
Mum listens to Dexter's soft whispers as a piece of her heart begins to swell with love for this sweet soul and thinks to herself, "Oh my, I didn't think I could do this, now I've got this sweet soul completely dependent upon me and needing his heart to mend. Well, we'll just do the best we can...together."
